The Dallas Team Handball Club traveled to Quad Cities, Iowa this May to compete in the 2026 USA Team Handball Open Championships, one of the premier events on the domestic handball calendar. The tournament featured many of the top clubs from across the country and provided Dallas with an opportunity to test itself against elite competition.
Dallas was drawn into an exceptionally difficult group and opened the tournament with a hard-fought draw against Minnesota, who would ultimately finish 4th overall in the Men’s Open Division. The team then faced Motor City and NYAC Red, two more of the strongest teams in the tournament. NYAC Red went on to finish as tournament runner-up, while Motor City featured the tournament’s top scorer and finished 6th overall. Despite the challenging results, Dallas competed with intensity throughout group play and gained valuable experience against some of the nation’s best clubs.
The team responded strongly in the placement rounds with back-to-back victories. Dallas first defeated Flanders Sport and Swim Club in one of the squad’s most complete performances of the weekend before closing the tournament with another win over Columbus. Those victories helped Dallas secure a 9th-place finish nationally and end the weekend on a positive note.
One of the standout individual performances of the tournament came from Dallas’ Roberto Novoa, who finished just six goals shy of claiming the Men’s Open Division Top Scorer award. Roberto’s offensive production and leadership were critical throughout the weekend, as he consistently delivered against top-level opponents and established himself as one of the most dangerous scorers in the division.
Beyond the results on the court, the tournament was a fantastic experience for the club. Competing against teams from around the country, supporting one another through every match, and spending time together throughout the weekend made for a memorable trip for everyone involved. The club is proud of the fight, resilience, and growth shown by the team and is already looking forward to getting back on the court and competing again soon.
We also want to thank everyone who supported Dallas Team Handball Club throughout the season and during Nationals. Your support continues to help grow the sport of team handball in North Texas, and we are excited for what lies ahead.
